I spent some time at the Chris Daly campaign office this evening. As you might imagine, Chris is pretty relieved that the spending cap has been lifted. As the Examiner reported yesterday, Chris has raised $140,000, and has two thirds of that on-hand, so he feels like he may be able to counter some of the hit pieces coming out from the big business corner. This is a huge contrast to the last couple campaigns he ran, where it was a struggle even getting to the spending cap.
I pitched in on a mailing today that Chris said was the first he’s done. He pointed out that Rob Black and his corporate supporters have done six mailings attacking Chris, and only now is he able to respond.
Overall, there’s a feeling of relief on the Daly side that they don’t have to hoard literature or skimp on food for volunteers, and that they’ll be able to get their message out.
The police “union”, used to being given carte blanche to do whatever they damn well please, has been at odds with Chris pretty much since he was elected. I finally got a chance to see the famous anti-Daly POA t-shirt.
