After Watergate, plumbers were a byword for political corruption. It seems that the Plumbers union in San Francisco might be skirting pretty close to reviving that reputation. We know that they have rented space to Rob Black in the District 6 race, and now they’ve sent out an “independent” expenditure mailer (see below the fold for the pictures of the mailer).
I don’t know for sure that the Plumbers Union coordinated with Black (which is, of course, illegal), but given that they are in the same building, it seems pretty damn likely. I think an investigation might be in order. Kamala?

Does the name Chris Dittenhafer ring a bell? How about Burke Strunsky?
It’s heartening to know how dumb “downtown” really is. The next four years should bring many more victories.

Sasha, the fact is that the Plumbers’ Union ALWAYS rents out its storefront for campaign headquarters around election time. It’s been that way since the mid-’80s; they’ve rented it out to dozens of different candidates. If they had done anything illegal, surely it would’ve been found out by now, and they’d be barred from renting it out to campaigns in the future. Your attempts to cast aspersions on Black’s campaign because of where it’s located is simply lame.

Hi, Chris, if you’d read my post carefully, you’d note that I am not “casting aspersions on Black’s campaign because of where it’s located”, I am pointing out that I think it’s unlikely that the Plumbers and Black are both headquartered in the same building, and at the same time the formers’ hit piece was created with absolutely no input from Black’s campaign.
