I’m interested in knowing whether District 6 residents have been contacted over the phone or at your door by a Daly or Black supporter. I don’t mean robocalls or just someone hangering your door, I mean actual contact, especially when they ask you who you support. If you total the number of IDs claimed by Daly and Black, it adds up to way more than the number of people who vote in District 6. Something’s fishy, and I am won dering what it is.

I’ve been called by Daly no less than 5 times.
I don’t think any other candidate has called at all.
As annoying as it is to receive campaign calls (especially on consecutive days) it’s even more annoying to get those robocalls.
Do those actually work? I’m on the “do not call” list, as lots of people are, and so do we all just decide to make exceptions for robo calls from political candidates? NO!
They’re pretty useless - annoying if you are in favor, but probably not annoying enough to change your vote, and super annoying if you are opposed (I got a few for the parental notification law - apparently, yelling into the receiver does not actually trigger any sort of response or stop the calls in any way). Plus, there’s no way to unsubscribe or tell them not to bother. AND the numbers (when they call) for the most part look like real phone numbers on caller ID!
I was sort of excited to get the one from Bill Clinton on Saturday. Sigh. I almost saved it just so I could keep his voice on my voicemail for when I need to feel a little hopeful about our political landscape.
I figured that saving the clip of him reducing Chris Williams to a sniveling pool of jello in the fox interview was adequate for that though.
and see, I’ve digressed again. Damn.

I’ve had two Daly supporters knock on my door and I’ve received at least two calls from real people supporting Daly. I’ve also received a number of robocalls from both Daly and Black supporters.
I’m still on the fence, though, and I’m leaning toward voting for neither Black nor Daly. I think Manuel Jimenez makes a lot of sense. I might just cast a single ballot for him. I know that in a sense, I’d be throwing away my vote, but I’d also be voting for exactly the positions I support.
The Republican Party is doing its best to convince me not to vote for Rob Black. We’ve all heard about the flier it sent out listing the ballot initiatives Daly sponsored that Black opposes. Well, I favor all of those ballot initiatives, so that makes it awfully hard for me to vote for Black.
Still, I agree with all of the people who are complaining about quality of life problems in this district, and I’m not convinced that Daly wants to do anything about them. I resent being told by Daly supporters that it’s bourgeoisie or “interestingly Freudian” to be concerned about pee and poo, people shooting up and smoking crack in the streets, drug dealers on every corner (and nobody doing anything about it), and trash just dumped in the streets. And I think it’s ridiculous to claim that all these problems are just “poverty.” Drug addiction is not the same thing as poverty. Throwing trash in the streets is not the same thing as poverty. I live across the street from an SRO and there are drug deals going on in front of that building all the time. A lot of the people who live there just throw trash into the streets. The amount of filth is just amazing. You don’t have to be bourgeoisie to dislike trash in your streets. And I don’t understand why poor children shouldn’t have the right to go to safe parks that aren’t full of drug dealers and junkies.
I know that a lot of you are going to say that these problems aren’t Chris Daly’s fault, but I’m not sure he isn’t at least partly to blame. If Daly had had his way, we would still be giving these junkies $350 a month in cash, rather than trying to get them into rehab. I read the Chronicle’s recent articles on homelessness in SF, and though I’m afraid I haven’t noticed all of the improvements that the Chron claims came about after CNC was instituted, I do approve of most of the efforts described in the articles, which make a lot more sense to me than just dispensing cash to anyone who shows up asking for it.
And I can’t help thinking that things might be better if Daly had a better working relationship with the police and the city government in general. He seems to be incapable of treating people he disagrees with civilly, and I don’t think that’s an effective way for a supervisor to behave.

Tomorrow is the big day! I wonder if Chris is nervous?
Anyone care to consider what happens if Daly wins? If he loses? Here is my prediciton:
Daly wins. We get 4 weeks of Daly standing on his pedistal, arms raised high announcing the “triumph” of the common man over high-powered, well financed republican special interests. References will be made to “David & Goliath”, the power of grass roots organization, the “progressive” movement, etc, etc. After that, it’s 4 more years of Chris being Chris, ignoring his constituents, etc. (see above for details). And it’s only a matter of time before the embolden Chris uses his “election mandate” to take a swing a Mayor Gavin. And when he does, the poor saps of D6 will love it.
Daly looses. A long career of anonymity working for a series of progressive special interest groups. Maybe another shot at D6 supervisor or a run at the mayorship, but definitely a lifetime label of “former SF supervisor…”

Miguelito,
One thing to note is that most of the initiatives that you and Daly support that the republicans oppose wouldn’t be on the ballot if it weren’t for Chris.

Thanks to Chris, we have conflicting propositions on the ballot. On one hand we have Prop F, the anti-business initiative (so says many merchant associations in SF). On the other hand, we have Prop G, which puts limitation on formula retail stores. In Chris’ words, it’s designed to protect San Francisco’s neighborhood & small businesses.
Can one of you pro-Daly people explain this one to me please?
