Whenever I get frustrated, I remind myself that I am so damn lucky.
Unfortunately, others are not.
LARGO, Florida (AP) — The City Commission voted to begin the process of firing a top official less than a week after he announced plans to pursue a sex-change operation.
The 5-to-2 vote Tuesday started a three-step process to remove City Manager Steve Stanton from the job he’s held for 14 years.
Stanton, 48, confirmed last week that he is a transsexual. With a solid reputation as a forceful and energetic leader, he had hoped to keep his $140,000-a-year job as he underwent the gender reassignment process.

What an awful story! In San Francisco, and now in the state of California, this discriminatory act is illegal, thanks to the hard work of local activists and politicians. News stories like this show just how important progressive activism can be.
If Stanton were an administrator with the city of San Francisco or the University of California, not only would her job be protected, but she would get equal health benefits.

Here’s more on the story:

Note, from the article, that Largo’s commissioners rejected a proposed 2003 ordinance against job discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.
