Finally, a new poll came out that suggests that we will win on Prop 75. I can’t tell you how relieved I am. But the fight isn’t over and when Republican operatives continue to turn out absentee voters using Prop 73 as an organizing tool, we must remain vigilant. And we must move forward with a positive agenda for the future that doesn’t revolve around elections.

Okay. I know it is hard to believe, but there are alot of landlords like Pius Lee who care deeply about tenants rights. So much so that they did an attack mailer on Phil Ting to ensure that tenants rights are protected in San Francisco. Yes. I know. The irony is not lost on me either.

The Affordable Housing Alliance was the sponsor of the piece. They made a slate mailer into an attack mailer and a bunch of landlords gave money to make sure that the slate mailer went out to renters to let them know who to support.

So Beyond Chron took on Supervisor Mirkarimi for his legislation regulating the pot clubs and suggested that he was abandoning his base on this issue. For the record, I do not support Supervisor Mirkarimi’s legislation on the pot clubs as drafted; however, I do not think that Sup. Mirkarimi has suddenly abandoned his base. When progressives bash other progressives over disagreements on public policy issues, it is simply embarassing.

This guy is having a really long day. I can kind of relate. My days on the campaign trail seem long too.

In today’s Chron, a writer touches on the worst part of this election. There is nothing for you on the menu. Turnout is expected to be very, very low. Voters turn out for candidates for sure, but they rarely turnout to vote no. Bring a friend to the polls. If they win here, Grover Norquist will take his agenda on the road and they will further sweep the nation with their right wing agenda.

SFUSD held its annual school registration fair at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium today.

This is where parents of incoming kindergarteners, 6th graders and 9th graders come to see which public schools they should enroll their future scientists, doctors and lawyers.

All of the public schools (except for Treasure Island) were there with a table, brochures, at least one parent and usually the principal.

Popular schools like West Portal, Alice Fong Yu and Rooftop had parents crowding around the table. Other schools had people in the aisles-hawking their school.

The California Dept. of Education released the 2004-05 Academic Performance Index (API) Growth Record. I realize that this is only a measurement-and not something that should be concerned as “the” measurement. But others will be talking about these numbers.

All of the California large urban school district’s scores went up. SFUSD’s scores went up by 21 points from 724 in 2003-04 to 745 in 2004-05. The district with the highest jump in scores was Oakland which went up by 34 points from 601 in 2003-2004 to 635 in 2004-2005; Hayward went up by 27 points from 652 to 679; Fremont went by 16 points from 833 to 817; LA Unified’s scores went up 16 points by 633 to 649; San Jose went up 23 points from 714 to 737; San Diego went up by 16 points from 710 to 726; Fresno went up 20 points from 623 to 642.

District Attorney Kamala Harris is Co-Chair of the Prop 73 campaign and today held a press conference with other African American leaders to announce opposition to Prop 73 and Prop 75. She even led a chant. “Nix the Six and Do the Two.” That is an easy phrase to tell people to help remember. Essentially vote no on the first six (prop 73-78) and yes on the last two (prop 79-80).

Here is a picture from the event. District Attorney Harris is speaking while James Bryant, President of the A. Philip Randolph Institute and fellow SEIU Local 790 staffer, watches on:

Here is one for the Believe It or Not files: The School Board unanimously agreed on something.

Granted it was something we all should agree on. But as you know, in San Francisco, sometimes even basic stuff can turn into a circular firing squad.

The Board passed a resolution unanimously opposing the State Propositions that Schwarzenegger is moving.

Here is the text:

Subject: Resolution No. 510-25A5

In Support of the Alliance for a Better California

- Commissioners Eric Mar, Sarah Lipson, and Norman Yee

WHEREAS: Teachers, firefighters, nurses and public employees play a critical role in
