Elementary School Music Festival (edit this)
My friend, Robin Saunders (a music teacher for SFUSD) urged me to come early to the Elementary School Music. It was a good tip-a hour before the concert was to begin, Lincoln’s large auditorium was filled with excited musicians, their parents, their grandparents and their brothers and sisters.
Rob Daniels, Program Administrator for Visual and Performing Arts, called up the first year violinists by showing that he was a pro at these type of concerts with the advice “Put your violin in your cases before you come up to the stage.”

SF Greens Endorse Krissy Keefer for Congress (edit this)
SF Greens endorsed dancer, founder of Dance Mission and mother of a SOTA student, Krissy Keefer for Congress over two months ago.
Several weeks ago, a group of Democrats and Greens, including Rob Arnow, Andy Blue and Tony Brasunas tried to recruit Matt Gonzalez to run as a Green against Pelosi.
On the surface, it would look like a group of young men who were not really aware that the deadline to getting your name on the primary ballot had passed (March 11) and that the SF Greens had endorsed Krissy months before. And since only one of those individuals (Arnow) is active in the Green Party, that may be the answer to the story.

SEIU Needs you on May 4th. Will you be there?
When you have an emergency, you call us. Now we
are facing a crisis and need your support.
Thursday, May 4th, Front Steps of City Hall, 5-6PM
When you call 911 in an emergency, we’re the ones who respond and send
help. Our roads and transit systems are safe because we keep them that
way. When your child is injured, we provide her with medical attention. We
support families, neighborhoods and generate revenues for our city.
We are the first responders. And we are your neighbors. On every ordinary
day, and in extraordinary circumstances, we work for San Francisco.
Despite this, and even after the sacrifices we’ve made for the city in its
lean times, we are now confronting punitive takeaways at the bargaining
table. City workers are facing the prospect of being priced out of the
very community we serve, and the city is pursuing outsourcing our jobs.

Assemblymember Koretz introduces Impeachment Resolution
California State Assemblyman Paul Koretz (D-Los Angeles) submitted amendments on Friday, April 21, to Assembly Joint Resolution No. 39, calling for the impeachment of President George W. Bush and Vice President Richard Cheney. The resolution references Section 603 of Jefferson’s Manual of the Rules of the United States House of Representatives, which allows
federal impeachment proceedings to be initiated by joint resolution of a state legislature. The resolution bases the call for impeachment upon the Bush Administration intentionally misleading the Congress and the American people regarding the threat from Iraq in order to justify an unnecessary war that has cost billions of dollars and thousands of lives and casualties;
exceeding constitutional authority to wage war by invading Iraq; exceeding constitutional authority by Federalizing the National Guard; conspiring to torture prisoners in violation of the “Federal Torture Act” and indicating intent to continue such actions; spying on American citizens in violation of the 1978 Foreign Agency Surveillance Act; leaking and covering up the
leak of the identity of Valerie Plame Wilson, and holding American citizens without charge or
trial.
Koretz submitted amendments gutting AJR No. 39, a resolution unrelated to impeachment, to the Assembly Rules Committee. The Rules Committee may take up the bill next week for referral, allowing him to formally introduce the amended resolution. The Assemblyman hopes his resolution will help promote a public dialogue about the questionable activities and errant judgment of the President and Vice President: “At both the
state and national levels, we will be paying for the Bush Administration’s illegal actions and terrible lack of judgment and competence for decades – not only in the billions of dollars wasted on the war and welfare for the rich, but in the worldwide loss of respect for America and Americans. Bush and Cheney must be impeached and removed from office before they undertake even deadlier misdeeds, such as the use of nuclear weapons. There are no bounds to
their willingness to ignore the Constitution and world opinion – we can’t afford to wait for the next disaster and hope that we can survive it.”

Sample letter on behalf of Peskin’s Ellis Act legislation
April 27, 2006
Dear Supervisor,
In San Francisco, the desire to own property often outweighs all other motivations, including compassion, empathy, even common humanity. Realtors and their attorneys have proven themselves positively eager to use the Ellis Act to evict long term tenants — even elderly, sick and disabled tenants — to profit handsomely, selling to buyers who already have homes but who want to “trade up.” As one critic put it, Real Estate has become the pornography of the middle class.

When does it become a crisis?
A study was released Tuesday Read the full post (5 words)
This is moderately good news:
The sad tale of unnecessary and seemingly endless “crunch times” combined with a veritable mountain of unpaid overtime had many people shaking their heads in disbelief, although to former EA employees like myself the only reaction was “what took so long for this story to come out?”
Now it seems that the story has a happy ending. Electronic Arts has reached a settlement with its programmers to the tune of US$14.9 million. The money will go to programmers at various levels who worked at Electronic Arts between February 14, 2001 and February 14, 2006.
I’ve worked in the software industry since before the first boom, and one of the reasons it’s so extraordinarily profitable is that everyone is classified as an “exempt employee”, which means that they don’t get paid overtime.
On March 12 and April 12, I sent under the CA Public Records Act a letter requesting information about the District’s professional development budget. Under the CA Public Records, the District is to respond within 10 days. As of today, I have not gotten a response from the District.
Here is the letter.
