Today Rob Black asserted that I am on loan from SEIU to the Daly campaign. That assertion is completely false. I have been on vacation since the beginning of last week. I have not demanded an apology from Rob. Frankly, I thought it was a cheap shot.

The comment a couple posts ago blaming Daly for drug dealers near the commenter’s house somehow clicked in for me why people don’t like Chris.
There are, broadly speaking, two approaches to solving societal problems like public urination: punishing people for doing it and providing facilities so that people don’t have to do it. The former is much more emotionally satisfying, the latter works better in the long term. I lived on Mission Street for 10 years, so I certainly understand the desire to strap on the old flamethrower and start cleanin’ up the neighborhood, but I also know that it wouldn’t make it any better in the medium or long term.
One of our commenters has been following the Daly campaign pretty closely the last few weeks, and has put together a bunch of video from the trail.
From Saturday’s rally, here are Tom Ammiano and Aaron Peskin on the importance of Chris’s reelection:
UPDATE: Jeremy points me to this video from YouTube user d6politics of Chris’s speech on Saturday. It’s really good:
From Sunday’s rally, here’s Sheriff Hennessy working to dispel the myth that that Chris is somehow anti-law enforcement:
And here’s a four-minute montage of the Supervisor on the campaign trail:
These videos are all courtesy of Jeremy Pollock, a member of the League of Pissed Off Voters who is volunteering on the Daly campaign.
Finally, below the fold is Matt Gonzalez’s cerebral testament to Daly.

A few notes on Broadband:
I finally finished reading the city’s Digital Inclusion Plan, and it seems pretty good. I’ll need to make another pass, but at first reading it doesn’t seem to miss anything, or propose any bad ideas.
Today was another crucial day for the District 6 Supervisor campaign, and there was another good turnout for Daly. Probably not quite as big as last week, but there were quite a few folks, nonetheless.
Aaron Peskin MC’d and both Leah Shahum, from the Bicycle coalition, and Tom Ammiano spoke, as well as a couple other people. Chris gave one of his better speeches, which really fired folks up. He underlined the fact that if he loses, San Francisco will be in deep trouble.
The coments thread on this post has made me wonder. Those of you who wish to elect Black because of dirty streets, what should Daly have done? I am having trouble understanding what Chris could have done to clean up the crap on Tehama Street, short of showing up with a shovel himself.
He’s not in charge of DPW, and lord knows he’s not in charge of the cops, so what should he be doing?

Jersey Shows California the Way
New Jersey’s highest court just ruled that gay couples are entitled to same benefits and rights as all couples united in love.
Way to go, New Jersey! California courts, please take note.
Unfortunately, the New Jersey court did throw back to the New Jersey legislature on whether New Jersey will allow gay couples to have marriage ceremonies.
