Scandal in City Hall
Well, it’s been in the rumor mill for a while, but it looks like it’s finally come out. It explains some of the running around that happened earlier today, but it doesn’t make the Newsom Administration look any more together.
Also keep in mind that it was someone who worked for Gavin, and I believe that having an affair with someone who works for you is considered bad workplace practice. Not to mention extremely tacky.

A desperate administration
I have been very busy, so I apologize for the light posting, but I can’t resist commenting on the amazing revelations that Newsom press flack Peter Ragone has been posting to SFist (and possibly other sites) under assumed names. What’s even more amazing is that he lied about it on camera, then admitted he lied.
Think about that: the press secretary for the Newsom Administration flat-out lied on camera. If Channel 7 (and the other TV stations) don’t have the credits “Peter Ragone - Admitted Liar” under him when he speaks, I’ll be disappointed. Why would anyone believe anything he says ever again? Talk about a loss of credibility! It’s time for Gavin to give him the heave-ho, I think.

Molly Ivins has passed away
Molly Ivins passed away earlier today. Firedoglake has a tribute, including this bit from January 8th:
The president of the United States does not have the sense God gave a duck — so it’s up to us. You and me, Bubba.
I don’t know why Bush is just standing there like a frozen rabbit, but it’s time we found out. The fact is WE have to do something about it. This country is being torn apart by an evil and unnecessary war, and it has to be stopped NOW.

Aloha, Bobby (edit this)
During the Matt Gonzalez for Mayor campaign, I helped to get people working the precincts during the general election.
There wasn’t alot of workers at that time. They came after Matt won the general election and was in the runoff. But there were a few stalwarts who came each and every day-throughout the election. And Bobby Kapaone was one of the few.

A Call to Action: Buy from Guy!
PLEASE CIRCULATE AND FORWARD:
Earlier this week, African-American florist Guy Clark’s business at Noe and 15th was vandalized, the letters KKK spray painted on his door. The police have labeled the incident a hate crime, and community leaders are circulating a letter decrying the incident and reminding the community of the symbolism of those three letters.
In the meantime, Valentine’s Day is upon us. What better way to say “I love you” then to send flowers. From Guy Clark.
Everyone in the community – hell, everyone in San Francisco – should direct their flower purchases to Guy Clark.

Oscar and Sahian Are Still Waiting, Mayor Newsom (edit this)
An update on the benefit for Oscar and Sahian…Their family have hired an attorney for the children who specializes in children’s advocacy and custody cases. So Supervisor Sandoval’s office is working with the attorney to see if they want us to have a benefit and if there are other ways that we can help Oscar and Sahian De La Cruz.
Regular readers will remember that during the MLK Birthday weekend, Oscar’s and Sahian’s parents were killed in front of the children in the family truck in Mission Terrace. So far, no word on whether the police has arrested a suspect. Nor no word from Mayor Newsom’s office on offering a reward to witnesses to help solve this murder.

SFistGate
Sasha made it big today and was on the radio about the crappy Wi-Fi deal the City is set to enter into. Tonight Rita and SFist are going to make it big on Channel 7 with Dan Noyes. Click here for the story they ran tonight at 6 PM.
The short version is that the Mayor’s Press liason, Peter Ragone, has been blogging under several names on SFist and going after Rita, our favorite blogger at SFist. Yikes!
There was a brutal quote from former Mayor Willie Brown:

Molly Ivins in the hospital
Apparently, the greatest living American newspaper columnist, Molly Ivins, is in the hospital fighting breast cancer,
AUSTIN – Liberal Texas columnist Molly Ivins has been hospitalized in her ongoing battle with breast cancer, her assistant said Friday.
Ivins may be able to go home Monday, Betsy Moon said.
“That’s the day the doctors said,” Moon said. “We’re not sure what’s going to happen, but she’s very sick.”
Ivins, 62, had taken a break from her syndicated column, but resumed writing earlier this month. Her most recent column appeared two weeks ago, when Ivins urged readers to stand up against President Bush’s plan to send more troops to Iraq, in what she called an “old-fashioned newspaper crusade.”

Multimedia extravaganza
I was interviewed on the Wi-Fi contract today for the Quake (960 AM). I’m told it’ll air at around 5:10pm this evening during the progressive news hour.
You can listen live here: http://quakeradio.com/pages/dynamic.html?feed=119934&article=361024
And you can listen to the report here. We’ll get a more Mac-friendly format up as soon as possible.
