Anti-antenna group files against Earthlink Wi-Fi plan
The cutely named SNAFU (the San Francisco Neighborhood Antenna-Free Union) has filed an appeal against the ruling that the Earthlink Wi-Fi plan does not need an environmental review.
While I understand their ostensible point–that this is a pretty big project to happen without environmental review–I think that the science is pretty clear that the amount of radiation put out by the Wi-Fi nodes is small, and pretty much non-threatening to anyone with more than a cursory knowledge of physics.

Eric Mar is running for Supervisor in District One
UPDATE: Eric writes us to say that it’s not official. He hasn’t 100% decided, apparently. Still, we’ll be really excited if he does run, and urge him very strongly to run. To whit: Run, Eric, Run!
It’s official. Longtime progressive School Board member Eric Mar is running for Supervisor in District 1. Eric will make a great supervisor. This is some of the best news I have gotten in a long time. I know the members of my local will be excited as well. He is a former member of SEIU Local 790 and is incredibly popular in our membership.

Progressive Convention-Danger of Being the Same Old, Same Old
The discussion around the progressive water coolers has been centered around Chris Daly’s Progressive Conference on Saturday.
One blog, Fog City Journal even used its front page story to give a rehash of an article about a possible that ran on another blog, Beyond Chron about the Progressive Conference.
But the discussion should really center on the following-
We, the progressives of San Francisco, have known for the last three plus years that there was a mayoral election in November 2007. So why don’t we have a clear-cut candidate five months before the election?

Queer History meets Deep Dish in New Photo Exhibit:
“San Francisco…According to RINK”
Opening Reception: Saturday, June 2nd 6:00 pm
LGBT Center, 1800 Market
3rd Floor Lobby and Galleries
San Francisco, California
Q-Ball to follow at 7:00 pm

Rink Foto has been documenting Queer San Francisco for almost four decades. If it happened here, he was probably there. But Rink is more than a photographer. Exhibitions that have shown his images by themselves have missed half the story. His stories, each one more outrageous than the last, are the other half. Some say Rink is a social commentator. Others consider him a notorious gossip. The truth may lie between. Rink makes history juicy. As part of the Queer Cultural Center’s 10th Anniversary National Queer Arts Festival season, curators Greg Day and Jordy Jones have taken Rink Foto’s photographs and stories together and mounted an unusual and provocative exhibition.

Info on Carlos Garcia, New Superintendent
Carlos Garcia was the superintendent for Clark County School District (NV) from 2000 to July 1, 2005. Clark County, the nation’s fifth largest school district, has over 300 schools and more than 280,000 students.
During his tenure at Clark County, overall student test scores remained around the 50th percentile in the nation. In an interview with Las Vegas Now, Garcia said that he thought that the scores are adequate, but with more state funds students would have performed better. Garcia says the problem rests in class size. He pointed out to the Las Vegas Now reporter, that their middle and high school teachers have 35 to 40 kids in one class. Link to LasVegasNow.com story

Write-in Jack Daly for Mayor

Really. I am not kidding. Jack was such a hit at the Harvey Milk Club dinner that some folks have started a write-in campaign for Jack for Mayor.
During one of the numerous speeches, Jack was reported to say: Daddy, this party is no fun. Let’s go to another party.
Word also has it that Sarah Daly will throw Chris under the bus if he files for Mayor, and since so many progressives are set on a Daly becoming Mayor, Jack seems like a natural to most. Now I would argue that Sarah Daly is also a strong contender as well. She knocked our socks off on election night last year with her victory speech. Can you imagine this November if Jack wins? What would Sarah’s speech be like? Or if Sarah won?

UC Regents give Execs more than $1 million in Extra Perks
This press release was sent by Senator Leland Yee’s office. This after UCSF relinquished over $ 1 million dollars of transgender specific funding. Shameless.
UC Regents Give Execs More than $1 Million in Extra Perks
Regents continue to override rules to give extra perks to administrators but not faculty or staff
SACRAMENTO – In the past year and a half the University of California (UC) Board of Regents have continued to hand out excessive compensation packages to their top executives. Today, the San Francisco Chronicle detailed that over $1 million in extra pay and perks were recently given to approximately 70 top executives. These handouts have come with the regents overriding their own rules regarding compensation.
