Strange street markings
Warning: Technical bicycle content.
As an avid bicyclist, I’ve often wondered what these markings mean:

I’ve only ever seen this marking in San Francisco (although I am assured it exists elsewhere). I always assumed that it was a smaller version of the much-beloved Sharrow, which serves to remind motorists that bikes are legitimate sharers of the road (and, I think, to assure cyclists they are on a designated bike route):

It turns out, though, that it’s considerably more complicated. And possibly of practical interest to cyclists.

Fun with Pride at Work and Leftinsf
I googled Pride at Work and leftinsf and got some great pictures in the images section. Check it out. When you get there, insert pride at work and leftinsf.
EDIT: Here’s the search for LeftinSF, and here’s the search for Pride at Work.
Second Edit: Here is the search with both.

Urgent Appeal by SEIU and UNITE HERE
Brothers and Sisters,
Many of us have been supporting members from SEIU 24/7 (Security Guards) during their contract fight with some of the richest and greediest building owners/security companies. Another action is being planned for tomorrow, Thursday, 11/29 at 4:30 p.m. at 1 Front St. (close to 1st and Market).
When security officers work full time protecting multi-billion dollar properties but still earn wages so low that they qualify for food stamps and other public assistance, isn’t it time we ask San Francisco and the Bay Area what this says about our future?

Coalition Supporting True Eminent Domain Reform Submits Signatures Today to Qualify the Homeowners Protection Act for June 2008 Ballot
FYI: This is a press release that came out that is about the eminent domain measure that tenant activists put on the ballot in opposition to the landlord backed measure that will also be appearing on the June ballot.
Measure Will Provide Iron-Clad Protections for Homeowners without Hidden Agendas and Unintended Consequences of Landlords’ Hidden Agendas Scheme

Renters Rights ballot measure gets signatures
We’ve been shamefully negligent in talking about this (not to mention helping with the drive), but Ted Gullicksen, the SF Tenants Union, and other tenant groups throughout the state have gotten well over a million signatures for an eminent-domain reform measure that protects rent control.
This is one of those situations where landlord groups (led, I understand, largely by the owners of mobile home parks) used people’s concern about eminent domain to try to sneak in an attack on rent control. And zoning. And environmental regulations. It is, essentially, Prop 90’s evil little brother.

Tuesday-Workshop on Enrolling Kindergarteners in SFUSD Schools (edit this)
Interested in learning how you can enroll your incoming kindergartener into San Francisco’s public schools? Then come to a recruitment workshop that will be held by the SFUSD’s Education Placement Center on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. at John Muir Elementary School, 380 Webster (Page/Oak).
The deadline for Round 1 is January 11-so this is a great chance to find out how you can enroll your child into a SFUSD public school and help them create a bright future in the years to come.

Throw Your Hands up in the Sky
This morning as I was doing Dandayamana-Bibhaktapada-Janushirasana standing separate leg head to knee pose at Mission Yoga I looked out at the liquor store where I used to buy cigarettes, the Red Dragon Liquor Store at 20th and Mission. It has been nearly 3 years since I have been in that store, or any store, to buy cigarettes. To say I am grateful for everything that led me to this moment is an understatement.
On Thanksgiving, you kind of expect people, including me, to say all the good things in my life that I am grateful for. Trust me, I am grateful for a lot: my friends, my life, my home, my job, and my yoga.
