Mission Beats Lowell, Lincoln Beats Wallenberg in OT (edit this)
Let me tell you a Cinderella story in boys basketball.
One of the smallest high schools within SFUSD with a coach who has only been coaching for two years beats the largest and best funded SFUSD high school with a score of 68-56. The team is filled with seniors who remember getting into the City Championship to be defeated by the district’s largest and better funded high school.
The small high school? Mission High School with an approved 07-08 budget of $5,820,908 with 864 students. This is the 2006-07 enrollment as reported by the CA Dept. of Education, link to the info .

McCain Wins Florida, Guilani and Kucinch Out of the Race (edit this)
McCain won Florida-a state that Guiliani spent the majority of his campaign efforts.
The Examiner noted that Kucinch dropped out of the presidential race over the weekend. Guiliani is expected to drop out with his third place finish.

Obama Wins SC and Gets SF Chronicle’s Endorsement (edit this)
Congratulations to Barack Obama’s campaign on their win in South Carolina.
The San Francisco Chronicle announced that they were endorsing Barack Obama for President. Since Mayor Newsom has endorsed Clinton, it is surprising that the Chronicle went with Obama.
As political junkies know, Super Tuesday is on Tuesday, Feb. 5. Twenty-four (24) states will hold primaries or caucuses on this date, with 52 percent of all pledged Democratic Party delegates and 41 percent of the total Republican Party delegates at stake. One of those states is of course, California.

More cyclists, more enforcement
A recent study showed a significant uptick in the number of cyclists in San Francisco.
The number of San Francisco bike riders rose by 15 percent from 2006 to 2007, according to a report by The City’s bicycle program.
In the study, which will be presented today at the Bicycle Advisory Committee, observers from the Municipal Transportation Agency’s Bicycle Program counted 6,454 cyclists on the streets during sample days in August 2007, which is 800 more than noted in 2006, the first year of the bicycle counting program.

Gavin gives voters the finger
The recent revelations that Gavin Newsom’s been paying mayoral aides out of the Municipal Transportation Agency’s budget is an uncharacteristically blatant display of contempt for the desires of San Franciscans. Within months of the passage of the Newsom-endorsed Prop A, which dedicated more money for the MTA, we find out that he’s been siphoning off money all along to pay his posse. This might explain the tepidness of his Prop A campaigning, but more importantly shows the level of concern Newsom really has for Muni and the people who ride it.
